Every year lakhs of India's best brains appear for one of the world's toughest and most prestigious examinations to make a career which represents Authority, Power, Respect, Popularity, Challenge and above all 'A chance to serve the Nation from the very Top'.
The examination is conducted into 3 st ages and the successful candidates become IAS, IPS, IFS, IRS etc.
STAGE 1 : PRELIMINARY STAGE
The first stage is called Preliminary stage or CSAT (Civil Services Aptitude Test). It consist of two Objective Type Papers. The stage is only qualifying in nature and the marks scored in this stage are not used to calculate the final merit list.

The Mains stage is the most important stage of UPSC CIVIL Services Examination. It carries bulk of the weightage. The syllabus of various papers are:
GS I : Indian Heritage and Culture, History and Geography of the World and Society.
GS II : Governance, Constitution, Polity, Social Justice and International Relations.
GS III : Technology, Economic Development, Bio-diversity, Environment, Security and Disaster Management.
GS IV : Ethics, Integrity and Aptitude
The candidate can choose any one optional subject from various subjects specified by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). Popular subjects are Public Administration, Psychology, Sociology, Anthropology, Geography, Philosophy or Literature etc. The subjects should be chosen carefully by the student as it is critical for the success.
Those who clear this stage qualify for the last stage i.e. Interview Stage.
